Festival Artists for Season 2010 - Lionel Loueke Trio
Lionel Loueke Trio
Three players - one from Benin in Africa, one from Sweden and one from Hungary… This story can only begin in the US, and in this case in Berklee. Guitarist and singer, band leader Lionel Loueke has started to play the guitar only at 17 focusing on African music. The encounter with jazz set him on a different course, he moved to Paris and from there to the USA. Today, only 34 years old, he has become a star playing with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter (who participated in his last album) and many others. He has a warm baritone that he uses to scat-sing along with his guitar as a contra-tenor. His ensemble is very popular in the US and this is their first visit to the festival.
