Zaviot

Awarded first prize for the most original band at a competition held during the first Red Sea Jazz Festival in October 1987, Zaviot (i.e.: angles) was described then as: "A local ensemble of four musicians from around the world playing original compositions combining BeBop, Fusion and AvantGarde. This band stands out with its leading musical instrument, the clarinet, and the amazing improvisation skills of its members."
Twenty five years later, the 26th Red Sea Jazz Festival announces a historic reunion of Zaviot with three of its original band members – clarinet player Harold Rubin from Israel, bassist Mark Smulian from Bristol, England and drummer Reuben Hoch from Florida, USA,  joined by New Zealand based Israeli guitarist Arli Liberman. This exclusive show celebrates Harold Rubin's eightieth birthday and the release of a collection CD including new and old materials featuring virtuosity through vibrant cross-cultural musical interpretations. A definite local pride and joy.
